Galaxy’s Edge VR Experience Announced

In a pleasant surprise this morning, Disney and Lucasfilm announced a brand new Galaxy’s Edge VR experience coming to the Oculus. Titled Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, the in-home experience will allow you to explore Batuu in ways you’ve never thought possible before.

Very little information was revealed about what you’ll actually do in the experience, but it will feature multiple gameplay styles and difficulty levels to make it as accessible as possible. As accessible as a $400 stand-alone VR console can be.

The Latest from ILMxLAB

The experience is being developed by ILMxLAB, the team behind the Vader Immortal virtual reality series. That series was also initially developed for the Oculus VR platform but was also recently announced for Playstation VR. This leaves the possibility that the series will eventually come to the PSVR platform as well. PSVR recently gained steam when the Marvel experience Iron Man VR’s demo was released.

Canonical Story

Like Vader Immortal, the experience will be a canonical story. It will be set in the same time period as the main Galaxy’s Edge theme park experience, in between the events of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. New and returning characters were mentioned in the announcement. Expect to see Vi Moradi, Hondo Ohnaka, and others. Hopefully we’ll also get to interact with characters like Oga Garra and Savi for the first time.

No release date was given in the announcement. We’ll share more on the Galaxy’s Edge VR experience we get info.
