Tonight, we took a trip to the Star Wars Trading Post at Disney Springs to check out the latest changes now that legacy lightsabers are available at the store. While there, we were told an very interesting piece of information: Emperor Palpatine’s lightsaber is coming soon to Galaxy’s Edge.

Just a rumor

For now, treat this piece of news as a rumor and nothing more. Cast Members are not always given accurate information, especially when it comes to products. That’s not to say the CM was lying, but rumors have persisted that the Reforged Skywalker and Ben Solo sabers were limited editions and that the Rebels version of Ahsoka’s lightsabers were discontinued. Both of those rumors, reported countless times by guests having spoken to Cast Members at Dok-Ondar’s, are so far completely false. All three of those sabers frequently experience stock issues, but that’s all they’ve been so far. So again, take the news of a Galaxy’s Edge Palpatine lightsaber with a grain or two of salt.

The context of the conversation was fairly simple. I was asking about stock when the cast member told me Mace Windu’s saber was no longer being sold at the Disney Springs location, along with Kylo Ren and Palpatine. That name obviously caused my ears to perk up, so I pressed, saying that had not been previously announced or unveiled. “That’s just what they told me,” said the cast member.

Hope from Hasbro?

Hasbro Black Series Force FX Elite Edition of Palaptine’s Lightsaber

The reason I think this particular rumor has legs is we already know a Palpatine lightsaber is coming…from Hasbro. It was announced back in August as part of the Black Series Force FX Elite line. Like the Galaxy’s Edge collection of legacy lightsabers, Palpatine’s saber features a removable blade that is nearly identical to the Galaxy’s Edge ones. We’ve done a few videos on the Revan lightsaber from the same series.

Why does that matter? Palpatine’s lightsaber wouldn’t be the first Force FX saber to cross over into a Galaxy’s Edge version. The first was Kylo Ren, though that seems like an obvious choice for Galaxy’s Edge. The more recent edition is Ahsoka’s lightsabers from the Clone Wars. Those lightsabers are already announced, and Hasbro recently revealed their own version with the same color-changing feature.

What makes the Palpatine lightsaber such an interesting rumor is it wasn’t included in the six lightsabers announced on the Disney Parks Blog as possible additions to the collection at Dok-Ondar’s. None of the names on that list are even close to Emperor Palpatine, so it’s highly unlikely the cast member got it confused with one of the six options on that list.

Again, and I cannot stress this enough, there has been no official announcement of a Palpatine lightsaber coming to Galaxy’s Edge. This is just a rumor from a Cast Member right now, but it is one that may have a nugget of truth to it. Hopefully we’ll find out soon.
