Bazine Netal is a character that if you blink while watching Episode VII: The Force Awakens you might miss her. She is a seemingly unimportant character with a brief appearance at Maz Kanata’s castle but what she does puts big events into motion. Bazine is also featured in the eBook The Perfect Weapon by Delilah S. Dawson.
Who is Bazine Netal?
Bazine was born on the planet Chaaktil and grew up in an orphanage in Chaakto City. When she was a child she was taken from the orphanage by Delphi Kloda, who ended up raising her in his combat school. Kloda nicknamed her Chaakrabbit. She learned various types of deadly martial arts and trained to become a talented spy.
At the age of fourteen, she was confident enough in her skills to go out on her first job. Kloda sent her to steal an item from one of his rivals. She forgot about her training and instead of laying low and trying to remain unseen, she tried playing up her looks and took on the role of a vamp. The mark figured out what she was trying to do and quickly showed her the business end of his flamethrower. Bazine was badly burned and has horrible scarring on her head. She always wears a skull cap or a wig to cover her scars. After that incident, she took her training more seriously and learned to fly under the radar.
In the book The Perfect Weapon, Bazine goes out on a job for an anonymous client. She is tasked with having to steal a case belonging to former Imperial stormtrooper, Jor Tribulus. She is unaware of the contents of the case. She partners up with Orri Tenro, a naive slicer at the request of Kloda to go find it. After a series of twists and turns, Bazine and Orri are successful and complete their mission.
When we see her in Episode VII: The Force Awakens, she makes a move and sets a chain of events into action. She is working as a spy for the First Order inside Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana. When Han Solo, Finn, Rey, and BB-8 show up at the castle to get help from Maz, Bazine reports back to the First Order that BB-8 who is wanted is at the castle. This triggers the First Order to come to the castle in order to capture the Resistance droid which sparks the first battle between the First Order and the Resistance, the Battle of Takodana.

Overall Thoughts
Bazine Netal is not a main character in the Star Wars universe and honestly, most fans wouldn’t know who she is. But she plays a big part in the events of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. I like her as a character. She’s smart, quick-witted, and good at what she does. She takes her spy gig seriously and has learned over the years how to go unnoticed.
I enjoyed the short story The Perfect Weapon which featured her. I got a glimpse into a character I didn’t know much about. I guess you could say she is a villain but I personally think she goes where the money is. If the Resistance could pay her enough she’d drop that First Order spy job and switch sides.
