All the COVID-19 Changes to Shopping at Galaxy’s Edge
The Galaxy’s Edge experience includes everything from the attractions, food, and of course shopping. Since the COVID-19 shutdown, there have been changes across the board. All of the retail locations throughout Galaxy’s Edge have made changes to the shopping experience. Here are all the COVID-19 changes to shopping at Galaxy’s Edge.
The Market
The market has always had an open-air market style to it. Before the COVID-19 shutdown guest were able to walk through the area and venture in and out of the stalls. The market usually had a large crowd and with social distancing now the new normal something needed to be done to keep everyone safe.
Disney has implemented a few new policies to comply with social distancing rules. Originally the market was not on the list of locations reopening when the park opened after the COVID-19 shutdown. Like many other things Disney found a way to make it work. Guests can no longer just walk through the area. Procedures have been put in place to keep everyone safe.
The Kowakian monkey lizard stall is not open at this time. In the past, a Cast Member would set up games for kids in this area and that is also not going on right now. The Kowakian monkey lizards are still for sale inside the Creature Stall.
Limited Capacity
Disney is limiting the capacity in the market area. All of the entrances and exits are blocked by a cast member or are roped off. This makes it so there is only one entrance and one exit to the area. A Cast Member at the front entrance to the market keeps track of how many people are in the area. Once the limit is reached guests have to wait in line until space is available.
There is also limited capacity inside the stalls. Only one party at a time is allowed in a stall. Guests wait in line on social distancing markers outside of the stall for their chance to shop. When it is your party’s turn the stall is all yours.
Social Distancing Markers
Social distancing markers have become commonplace all around Disney Parks and properties. Galaxy’s Edge is no expectation. Outside of each stall are social distancing markers for guests to wait on until it is their turn to enter the stall. All social distancing markers have been placed 6 feet apart.
Hand Sanitizer Stations
Hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout Galaxy’s Edge including the market. Guests can sanitize their hands at the entrance and exit to the area and at the entrance to each stall.
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is always a popular stop for guests on their trip to Galaxy’s Edge. Just going in the shop is an experience with all of the treasures Dok has on the upper balcony and hanging on the walls
Legacy Lightsabers
The biggest draw into the store was the legacy lightsabers and the kyber crystals. Dok-Ondar’s was always packed with guests. Especially at the front counter where guest had a chance to look at and hold legacy lightsabers. But since the COVID-19 shutdown, Disney had to change a few things to keep everyone safe.
The legacy lightsabers have been moved to Savi’s Workshop because as of right now the Savi’s experience where guests could build custom lightsabers is not open. Only two parties are allowed in Savi’s at one time on opposite ends of the room. Guests can look at, hold, and try out a legacy lightsaber of their choice. Guests also get to choose if they want to add on accessories such as a carrying case, belt clip, or a blade.
Kyber Crystals
In the past, the kyber crystals were available for guests to look at, examine, and hope you got the one you were looking for. But now the kyber crystals at Dok-Ondar’s are kept behind the counter. Guests tell a Cast Member what color they want and the Cast Member chooses for you.
First Order Cargo
When we went to Galaxy’s Edge First Order Cargo was closed but it has since reopened. The store has a limited capacity just like the others. The hours seem to be limited as well, we suspect that it may be a staffing issue. All the merchandise and the layout of the store is the same.
Resistance Supply
Resistance Supply is not a traditional store it is an open-air kiosk. Disney has not reopened this type of store throughout any of the parks. Guests can purchase Resistance merchandise at Black Spire Outfitters inside the Market. Black Spire Outfitters previously sold Jedi and Sith robes, accessories, and other Disney bounding looks.
The Droid Depot
The Droid Depot is another popular destination on most guests list at Galaxy’s Edge. Not only can guests build custom droids but merchandise is also available. Guests can buy key chains, t-shirts, droid accessories, and pins. The store has been rearranged and doesn’t seem as cluttered.
Custom Droid Building
Guests who wish to build a droid still need to make a reservation. The droid building experience hasn’t really changed that much. Social distancing rules are in effect and plexiglass barriers have put up. Cast Members still guide you through the experience and everything else is about the same.
The Droid Depot Store
The Droid Depot store has a limited capacity like all of the other merchandise locations at Galaxy’s Edge, plexiglass barriers are in place at the cash registers, and social distancing markers are on the floor to indicate where guests should wait to check out. The front entrance is still the entrance but guests cannot exit out that door. The exit is located in the small shop area to the right of the droid building area.
Overall Thoughts on the Changes
The COVID-19 changes to shopping at Galaxy’s Edge are just one of the changes you can expect on your next visit to Galaxy’s Edge. Everything from the attractions, character interactions, and shopping has changed. Disney is making the best out of a bad situation and keeping as much of the experience as they can the same all while keeping everyone safe.
