Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise coming to shopDisney

The COVID-19 global pandemic has affected Galaxy’s Edge in a variety of ways, but this is one we didn’t necessarily see coming. Brought on by Disneyland in California being closed for over six months and travel (and park/hotel stays) down significantly in Florida despite the reopening, Disney announced today that Galaxy’s Edge merchandise coming to shopDisney for a limited time starting on September 28th.

Exactly what merchandise will be available was not revealed, but the shopDisney coming soon page does show legacy lightsaber hilts and costume pieces.

The merchandise is also coming to Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs at the Star Wars Trading Post. This shop has been selling Star Wars merchandise for quite some time, with the occasional Galaxy’s Edge exclusive sneaking out post-COVID. The opening of a Trading Post location in Downtown Disney in California this week was a hint we may see an expansion of those offerings, and now it is official. Whether or not the Trading Post gets a decorative update remains to be seen. The Springs Trading Post merchandise offerings begin on September 22nd.

Disney did not give an end date to their “limited time” offering for the Galaxy’s Edge merchandise coming to shopDisney and other locations, but it is expected to last at least through the holiday season and possibly longer. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will be long-lasting. Hopefully, the specialness of Galaxy’s Edge merchandise and the ability to only purchase them inside the land is restored. For now, fans unable to make the trip will be able to purchase Galaxy’s Edge items online and that’s good for everybody.
