REVIEW: The Child Plush from Mattel
The Disney+ series The Mandalorian hit our screens back in November and ever since the first episode The Child or Baby Yoda has been the latest craze. Viewers and Star Wars fans alike have been anxiously awaiting Baby Yoda merchandise. Now that more and more merchandise is starting to roll out when we saw The Child plush at our local Target we had to pick it up.
The Packaging
The Child plush comes in a cardboard version of the pod they float around in on the show. The pod is white and appears to have the orange back cushion just like the one on the show. Baby Yoda sits in the pod and as you carry it around the store they appear to be floating.
The Child
The Child plush has a great likeness to the character on the Mandalorian. This plush was $24.99 and for the price point, it’s really detailed. The head and hands are made out of vinyl. The body is a soft plush with a beanbag bottom so that it can stand up. The plush is 11 inches tall, which from what we know would be life-size.
The Child is wearing a brown robe trimmed with a soft wool-like collar and sleeve trim. The eyes are very lifelike and look very much like all the images you see of the character on the show. The Child plush does not have feet, which makes sense because it appears to be standing and we never see the feet on the show.
Where can I buy a The Child Plush?
We found ours at Target, but it is available at various retailers online. Best Buy currently has them available for pre-order, with an estimated shipping date of May 8th, 2020.
Overall Thoughts
I absolutely love this plush. It is incredibly detailed and adorable. The head has slight wrinkling on the top and the coloring is spot-on. My favorite features are the ears and the eyes. The eyes are so similar to the character on the show. On the show, The Child has wide brown eyes with large black pupils. The pupils take up most of the eye and give them a black appearance. The eyes have a childlike sparkle in them. This plush has that quality.
The ears have a great likeness to the characters, they are green on the outside and have a faded pink color on the inside giving them a life-like appearance. The only thing I do not like about this plush is that it does not have feet. I understand why they most likely left them off. The Child’s feet are not seen on the show and the plush is meant to stand up and not sit down. But I found the rounded bottom with no feet a little weird. But honestly, this plush is awesome and overnight has become the star of my Star Wars collection.
