What’s New at Galaxy’s Edge 1/7/2021

Things certainly have changed at Galaxy’s Edge since the last time we visited the park. We recently got the chance to visit Galaxy’s Edge and wanted to let you know what’s new at Galaxy’s Edge. We spotted new merchandise, food and beverage options, and COVID-19 procedures.

New Merchandise

Dianoga Toy

At the Creature Stall, a dianoga was recently added to the mix. This one is much smaller than the trash compacter monster that nearly killed Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. It comes in a small hard plastic container. A dianoga can also be spotted near the Market bathrooms and makes brief appearances throughout the day. The dianoga toy is priced at $39.99.

Boba Fett Plush

What's new at Galaxy's Edge, this Boba Fett plush along with many other new pieces of merchandise.

The Boba Fett plush isn’t exactly new but I thought I’d bring it up since he has become even more popular with his recent Mandalorian appearances. This plush is available at the Toydarian Toymaker and is priced at $22.99.

Boba Fett Wooden Doll

The Wooden Boba Fett Doll is a great compliment to Stormie the Wooden Stormtrooper Doll for Rogue One. Boba is wearing his signature green, red, and yellow armor and comes complete with a jetpack.

The Boba Fett doll has flexible leg and arm joints and comes with a display stand. The doll is available at the Toydarian Toymaker and is priced at $39.99.

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader Posable Toys

The Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader posable toys are newer additions to the Toydarian Toymaker. The toys are attached to a base. The toy’s whole body is posable. The Darth Vader toy has an attached fabric cape. Both characters have a Galaxy’s Edge connection. In the second Thrawn novel by Timothy Zahn Alliances, both characters take a trip to Batuu. Both toys are priced at $19.99.

Kids Grogu Spirit Jersey

We spotted a new kids Grogu (Baby Yoda) Spirit Jersey at Keystone Clothiers in the front of the park. The spirit jersey is black and features Grogu on the front and reads protect, snack, attack on the back with images of Grogu. The Spirit Jersey is priced at $49.99.

Grogu T-Shirt

This fun 90’s style womens cut Grogu T-shirt is available at Keystone Clothiers in the front of the park. The t-shirt features Grogu, The Star Wars logo in fun pink printing, and a confetti background. The t-shirt is priced at $29.99.

New Baby Shoulder Porg

Shoulder characters are all the rage at Disney Parks. Galaxy’s Edge was the first to feature shoulder porgs last year. But this year there is a new design. These fun baby porgs secure to your shoulder with a magnet. The older style is still available but not inside Galaxy’s Edge. The newer style also has a higher price tag. The older version was $19.99 and the newer style is $24.99.The Baby Shoulder Porg is available at the Creature Stall.

New Food and Beverage

Paddy Frog Sipper

The Paddy Frog Sipper is available at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. It features an iridescent sphere surrounded by gold plastic. The sipper even comes with a strap for easy carrying as you travel through Batuu. Inside the sphere is of course a tasty beverage you can choose between a fountain drink $15.99 or Moof Juice $17.49. Also inside is a glow cube and a Paddy Frog. Paddy Frogs were Jabba the Hutt’s favorite snack.

Rise of the Resistance COVID-19 Procedures

Joining a Virtual Boarding Groups Remotely

As previously reported if you are on Disney property you can attempt to join a broading group for Rise of the Resistance remotely. Before the pandemic shut down Disney park guests had to arrive super early in the morning and be scanned in to the front gate to join a broading group.

We recently talked to a Cast Member at Guest Relations to find out how this process worked. We stayed at the Art of Animation earlier this month and wanted to try out the relatively new procedure. The Cast Member told us as long as you have a valid ticket for that day and a Park Pass for Hollywood Studios you can attempt to join a broading group remotely. He said the first round of groups begins at 7:00am and to be on the My Disney Experience app at 6:45am. We did this and by 7:00am we were in group 68. The bonus part with this procedure is we got to go back to sleep afterward. The park didn’t open officially until 9:00am.

The groups fill up quickly because at 7:00am on the dot we got group 68. We waited roughly 3 hours to go on the ride and filled that time with other rides and activities. The ride didn’t break down and broading groups were steadily called on time. We didn’t even have to wait that long in the queue after our group was called.

Plexiglass added in waiting areas and ride vehicles

Since our last trip to Hollywood Studios plexiglass has been added to waiting areas and to the ride vehicles. When we entered the briefing room the same colored dots were on the floor to promote physical distancing but plexiglass has been added to further separate groups.

Plexiglass was also installed on the Resistance Transport ship that gets hijacked by the First Order. Large stickers that read “Do not touch” have been placed on the plexiglass as a reminder to travelers to not touch it.

There was also plexiglass installed on the ride vehicles themselves in-between the front and back rows. We sat in the front row so our view wasn’t obstructed but sitting in the back with all the lights and effects might make it hard to see with the addition of the plexiglass.

Virtual Queue for Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities has always been the store to stop by in Galaxy’s Edge. Since the Legacy Lightsabers have been moved back to this location from Savi’s Workshop the crowd to get in the store has crazy. Disney has placed distancing markers in the ground from the entrance of the store to the stairs that lead to the garage area.

Once those markers are full a virtual queue system goes into effect. There are two lines for the store those that want to browse and shop for many of Dok’s treasures and those that want to look at and purchase the Legacy Lightsabers. A Cast Member stands at the end of the regular shopping line with an iPad to add travelers to the queue. If you want to look at or purchase the Legacy Lightsabers there is a QR code that you must scan. You will be sent a text when it is your turn to shop. If you make it on the list you will get in before the store closes for the day. It might be right at closing but you will get in.

Overall, our trip was great. Crowds were low at the park in general but Galaxy’s Edge was very busy. As always from what we could see everyone was wearing a mask, using hand sanitizer, and abiding by the COVID-19 procedures.
