The Rise of Skywalker Disney+ Release Date Announced

Yet another reason to celebrate May the Fourth was announced this morning as Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker will be coming to Disney+ on Star Wars Day! You will now be able to stream all nine films of the Skywalker Saga on one platform in full 4K Ultra High Definition.

Also Available On Digital & Physical

If you’re not a Disney+ subscriber, the film is also available digitally and on physical disc formats. There are several different versions, with the variants largely coming in packaging.

The digital and physical releases also include several special features including the feature-length documentary Skywalker Legacy detailing the making of the film. Digital releases also include an exclusive featurette on composer John Williams.

What’s Missing From Disney+?

Now that The Rise of Skywalker is coming to Disney+, the only piece of canon Star Wars content missing from the service is Solo: A Star Wars Story. It is currently under contract with Netflix until July 9th, 2020.

Other pieces of Star Wars content missing from the service are 2003’s The Clone Wars micro-series from Genndy Tartakovsky, the Droids and Ewoks cartoons from the mid-1980s and the Ewoks live-action TV specials. Last but most certainly not least is the fabled 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. None of those pieces are considered canon, and no announcements have been made regarding their release.
