Project Luminous unveils the High Republic Era

Project Luminous was officially unveiled tonight in Los Angeles as a multi-platform publishing initiative set in a new era of Star Wars storytelling. It will feature multiple novels for both adults, teens, and young readers as well as multiple comic books. The stories will occur over multiple phases, with tonight’s announcements acting as Phase 1. All stories will take place in the newly-unveiled High Republic era of galactic history.

The core elements of the story revolve around the question “what scares the Jedi?” The Nhil (pronounced “Nile”) appear to answer that question and possibly trigger something only known now as “The Great Disaster.”

Here are all the announced books and comics:

Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray

Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray

An adventure-interested padawan leaves the comfort of Coruscant in this young-adult novel by the fan-favorite author of Master & Apprentice and Bloodline.

Gray handled the master/padawan relationship incredibly well with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, so I’m particularly excited to see how this plays out.

Star Wars The High Republic comic cover

Star Wars: The High Republic by Cavan Scott

Cavan Scott is no stranger to Star Wars comics, but now he gets to play in the big leagues with a new on-going series from Marvel comics! This is the first Marvel book to explore outside of the film era, and with concept art for the project by renowned comic artist Phil Noto you can be sure this book will look and read incredibly well!

Light of the Jedi cover

Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule

Light of the Jedi will kick off Phase 1 of Project Luminous when it launches on August 25, 2020, just before Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California. Soule has written several comics for Marvel, many of them Star Wars books. He is currently the primary writer for the main Star Wars book and has previously nailed the character of Darth Vader in an on-going series. Soule has also written a few non-Star Wars novels, but this will be his first foray into strict prose in the Star Wars universe.

More Stories!

Also announced were two young-to-middle-grade stories – a High Republic Adventures comic series from IDW written by Daniel José Older will mirror the mainline all-ages book Star Wars Adventures, also from IDW. Justina Ireland will author A Test of Courage, a middle-grade novel about a 16-year-old Jedi Knight. There are definitely stories for every Star Wars fan in Project Luminous!

Everything gets started with the release of Light of the Jedi on August 25th. More information will be unveiled later, and we’ll have all the news here on EdgeOfTheGalaxy.com!
