Lucasfilm has confirmed multiple Star Wars book releases were adjusted due to COVID-19. New dates were issued for the summer releases of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative.
Star Wars: The High Republic era is set in the time when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their height, about 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This is a new unexplored period in the Star Wars universe and will not overlap with any existing Star Wars content. Fans have been patiently waiting for the new publishing initiative to kick-off this summer.
The Charles Soule adult novel Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi and Justina Ireland’s middle-grade novel Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage will both now release on January 5, 2021. Claudia Gray’s young adult novel Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark has been moved to a new release date of February 2, 2021.
Other summer releases such as E. K. Johnston’s Queen’s Peril, the prequel to her popular novel Queen’s Shadow and Alexander Freed, Shadow Fall, the new Alphabet Squadron novel will keep their original release dates of June 2, 2020, and June 23, 2020. The first book in a new Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising will actually release a month earlier on September 1, 2020.
